Round 3's prompt is 'Animal". I chose 'Cat and Mice' from Quilters Cache for my block.

I made a sketch on grid paper and made a plan for cutting my fabric. I used two methods for making the half-square triangles.
Since this is a blog sharing the true story of my sewing I have to admit that I counted wrong. I cut and sewed and had only half of the block. Oops!
Now I had a challenege. I had lots of the darker fabric but only enough of the lighter fabric to make 8 more half-squares. I needed 14.
I'm trying to use stash and refrain from buying more fabric. So I looked through my tubs of scraps and found a floral with the same base color. I decided to make those odd bits into a pattern instead of just sewing them at the end of the block.

In order to scatter the florals around I had to take out some half-squares and replace them with the florals. The photo above is in progress. And yes, I sewed the second row from the bottom wrong. Back to ripping.

Above there is one square that needs to be replaced. I am now an expert at removing and replacing blocks. Hahaha.

So a mistake has led to a design choice. I have lots of the floral fabric and the dark teal. Rounds 4-6 will have bits of those fabrics as well as the solids.
Having fun. Thanks ladies.

The floral matches so perfectly I would never have known is wasn't a design choice. Looks great to me!
Cat and Mice! I'm not familiar with this block but it looks great, and I love your fabrics! (this is Emily)
